My biggest junk food weakness is and always has been, chocolate. I like it in any form – candy, cake, cookie, or ice cream. I like it hot (as in hot fudge sundae or a cup of hot cocoa). I like it cold (as in ice cream or frozen candy bars or chocolate milk shakes). I especially like it paired with peanut butter.
My current favorite is the Peanut Butter Bash at DQ. Picture this: soft, creamy chocolate ice cream, surrounded by dollops of hot fudge and peanut butter sauce, sprinkled liberally with flakes of chocolate candy. Every delicious bite delights the taste buds – the smooth, slightly salty, peanut butter sauce and the cold ice cream contrasted with the sticky sweetness of hot fudge and the crunch of the chocolate flakes is simply heavenly, and if heaven could be found on earth, it would look like a Dairy Queen Restaurant to me. Running a close second to the DQ confection, is chocolate formed in any shape with Reese’s peanut butter filling inside, be it the tree at Christmas, the bunny at Easter, the heart on Valentine’s day, the pumpkin for Halloween or the plain old Reese’s peanut butter cups, available at your grocer’s check out aisle year round.
Let’s not forget cupcakes and brownies, both can be embellished by peanut butter, too. Speaking of grocers, they have devised a diabolical ploy to sell their chocolate cakes. Instead of having to buy an entire cake, we can now run in a buy it by the slice. This way we eat one slice far more often than we would actually buy a whole cake, but whom, besides my doctor, is counting? During our visit with Bill’s dad last week, he brought up Entenmann’s chocolate covered donuts. A fresh box of these would not last a day in our house. Paired with a frosty glass of milk – yum! And it is always time to eat the donuts at Dunkin Donuts – the double chocolate are the best!
So how does on one handle such an obsession? I choose not to fight it.. I hold up the white flag and offer complete surrender. Life is too short not to eat chocolate. Often. Well, back to filling plastic eggs for the kid’s Easter egg hunt this Saturday. M &Ms fill them quite nicely. I do hope I have enough. Let’s see,1 5 for Evelyn, 1 5 for Gavin, 20 for Grams… Guess I’ll have to get more on my way to the DQ. See you there!
